'Teacher Looping' Improves Outcomes.

Teacher "looping"--pairing a student with the same teacher for more than one year--can improve students' academic and behavioral outcomes, according to a study of data presented at the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management by coauthors Leigh Wedenoja, senior policy analyst at the Rockefeller Institute of Government, Albany, N.Y., and Brown University's John P Papay and Matthew A. Kraft, associate professors of education and economics, who found that repeat teachers improve academic performance in math and English Language Arts for students in grades three through 11 and decrease absenteeism and suspension, especially among male students of color.
