I enjoyed your article on pension planning ("Pension planning (yawn ...) is a disaster," Jeff Rundles, May) and agreed with many of the facts you presented. The only consideration I would offer is that in terms of the education process, many employers do spend a tremendous amount time and effort educating our employees on the importance of saving for their retirement. I firmly believe however, that much of this education needs to take place earlier in our children's lives. I think our primary and secondary educational institutions need to develop core programs which focus on personal finance. The subject matter should cover savings, the compounding effect, retirement, stocks and mutual funds and perhaps most importantly, credit cards...
