A taste of New York: Boar's Head meat has arrived in Alaska.

Exceptional deli meats from the delicatessen capital of the world, New York City, have arrived in Anchorage. Alaska Provisions LLC are the distributors of Boar's Head deli meats and cheeses, and Alaska customers started to see the brand sold in Fred Meyers Stores, beginning last month. The first Fred Meyer that stocked the deli meats is at 2300 Abbott Road, Anchorage.

Partners, Paul and Scott Hueber, a father and son team, along with Ian Scott, have transplanted themselves from Arizona to Alaska because of the marketability of Boar's Head deli products to the "Last Frontier state." All three men manage their company, Alaska Provisions LLC, an authorized distributor of Boar's Head brand premium meats and cheeses. Andrea Disario, spokesperson for Boar's Head in New York, said, "Ian and Paul each have in excess of 30 years of retail management and food services experience, and Scott has 14."

According to Disario, Boar's Head deli meats and cheeses will be available in Fred Meyer's deli departments. Paul, Scott, and Ian, along with two Boar's Head deli consultants, have been training the deli department at Fred Meyer's Anchorage store. Disario says, "They've (Fred Meyer's deli department) learned about proper methods of handling, serving and caring for the products because food safety and freshness are always a top priority at Boar's Head. These sessions also include instruction on providing customer service."

Alaska Provision's owners have enjoyed helping the Anchorage economy. They've bought equipment from TrailerCraft, Lithia Chrysler Jeep, B and J Forklift Services, and Arctic Refrigeration. All of these businesses are located in Anchorage. "We know it means a lot to the people here to do things locally, so that the dollars are put back into the local economy," says Paul Heuber.
