Just the thought of a large, hairy tarantula can give some of us the creeps. Did you know that, in addition to eight legs, these meat-eating creatures have eight eyes, as well as the fact that there are more than 300 species, some of which can live more than 30 years? Their powerful mouths and venomous fangs prey on small reptiles, insects, birds, and even other spiders and, with two tiny claws on each leg, they can inject a chemical that dissolves flesh.
