SECRETARY GENERAL Cesar Gaviria called on the nations of the Americas to stay focused on combating terrorism. "Our challenge is to maintain the political will to make the fight against terrorism a top hemispheric priority--beyond the emotional level, which is sometimes volatile and transitory," he told a meeting of the Inter-American Committee Against Terrorism (CICTE).

The January 28-29 meeting, chaired by Steven Monblatt, deputy coordinator for counter-terrorism for the U.S State Department, brought together government ministers and experts in terrorism from around the Hemisphere.
