Colorado Sustainable Design Awards celebrate the state's best architecture: awards will recognize outstanding design in residential and commercial properties and mixed-use developments.

ColoradoBiz wants to celebrate building design by recognizing projects statewide that exemplify social, environmental and economic sustainability.

The magazine is now accepting applications for the Colorado Sustainable Design Awards, a program launched in partnership with the American Institute for Architects (AIA Colorado), the Urban Land Institute (ULI Colorado) and United States Green Building Council, Colorado Chapter (USGBCC).

The awards were developed to highlight sustainable architecture and land use in private and public settings. The competition is open to Colorado-based design firms and feature projects completed or under way in the state. Awards will be judged in four categories:

  1. Residential architecture--single family homes

  2. Commercial architecture--office/mixed-use/multi-family buildings

  3. Civic architecture

  4. Sustainable Communities Award--land development, urban design and or master-planned communities

Photography and descriptions of finalists and winners in each category will be featured in the November issue of ColoradoBiz, within the Planet Profit Report section of the magazine focusing on sustainable business and the new energy economy. Winners will also be recognized at the 2009 Rocky Mountain Commercial Real Estate Expo and Fall Forecast, Nov. 10 at the Colorado Convention Center.

ColoradoBiz Publisher Bart Taylor cited the work of Colorado-based firms as a key reason for the launch of the awards program.
