America was once a land where the aphorism attributed to Voltaire reigned supreme: "I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." It's ironic that the authorities specifically tried to silence a message simply because it was written in Arabic ("When Arabic Is Suspect," by Matthew Rothschild, December issue). "We will not be silent," indeed.
