Patching together movie clips and interspersing them with interviews with people who knew and worked with the star is a formula hat is becoming very tired very fast. When the entire effort smacks of a quickie, cheap production - including lame narration by actor Robert Wagner - the question becomes: why bother?

Steve McQueen led a hard-driving (literally, when you consider his love for motorcycles and fast cars) life, well-described by ex-wife Neile Adams, son Chad McQueen, and stuntman/friend Loren Janes. Director Robert Wise, writer Robert Anderson, and critic Michael Medved testify to the actor's talent and dedication to his craft. This is all well and good, but any documentary tribute ultimately hangs on well-remembered film clips, and here this video faIls apart.
