Sunnie Daud: enhancing opportunity.

Sunnie Daud's life is a textbook example of how to build an American dream. She and her husband emigrated from Malaysia in 1966 after he was awarded a scholarship to study in Pennsylvania. Both found the opportunities available in the U.S. intoxicating and decided to stay.

Daud started out life in the U.S. cleaning houses to earn money and created her first niche when she branched into defrosting refrigerators. But having enjoyed selling cosmetics for a British firm in Malaysia, she was looking for a way to get back into the beauty business. She earned a cosmetology license and found a job at a hair salon. But the hours were long, and she felt respect for hair-dressers was low unless they owned their own establishments. So, when her husband was transferred to another state, Sunnie decided to start working for a computer manufacturer located near their home. Later, when the couple moved to Utah, she leveraged that experience into a position as a scheduler with Thiokol. She was repeatedly promoted by the aerospace company and won NASA's coveted Silver Snoopy award, given to individuals for outstanding efforts that contribute to the success and safety of human space flight. At age 45, after many years of developing her professional skills and continuing to learn about the beauty industry, she had acquired the experience and money needed to launch her own business: Enhance Beauty Clinic. Last year, after 16 years in business, she purchased a new 3,000-square-foot facility in Murray.

Daud has fine-tuned her ability to meet clients' needs at her facility, which she describes as "a one-stop shopping destination" for the complete care of hair, skin, nails and body. Standard services are offered as well...
