Summer activities keep weight down.

Trying to keep your weight down? It's not necessary to start running 10 miles a day. Normal summer activities may be the best answer. According to Darlene A. Sedlock, associate professor of kinesiology, Purdue University, staying active is the way to keep weight under control. Golf, in fact, is a great way to burn calories because it is low in intensity, but long in duration. A round of golf - walking and pulling the clubs for 18 holes - burns about 1,060 calories for a 150-pound male. "That's 600 calories more than if you just stood around doing nothing for four hours [about the time it takes to play a round] and is the equivalent of running six miles. On the other hand, if you're riding in a cart with a [beer] cooler in the back, it's probably not going to help your health at all, "The best way to keep weight under control is to make little changes in lifestyle. Don't make several drastic changes all at once, because you won't be able to stick to it.' She advises students in her physical education classes to make small adjustments that don't upset their eating pattern, but do move them toward a more nutritionally and calorically balanced diet.
