YOUNG LIFE

TERRY SWENSON, VICE PRESIDENT OF COMMUNICATIONS

With a presence in all 50 states and more than 45 countries, the nonprofit organization Young Life is turning to technology to help further its mission of introducing adolescents to Christian beliefs and preparing them for the future. Young Life needed a way for more than 1,000 distributed offices - many of which are small or home-based - to connect with each other, with their local communites, and with the service center in Colorado Springs.

Microsoft's SharePoint Portal technology provided a solid foundation to help Young Life achieve their mission. "Given the dynamics of our organization, it was key to create an IT solution that was administered centrally and implemented locally," said Terry Swenson, Vice President of Communications at Young Life.

Portal miniSites will support area directors in their ability to communicate with kids and parents, to recruit volunteers, and to raise funds. Each Young Life area can create its local area site selecting one of a handful of Young Life designs and customizing the information. "Using SharePoint, we can have both a common level of quality and design standard while still allowing individual expression," said Swenson.

A second portal, campSites, will allow the organization's 24 camping properties to communicate with the 80,000 Young Life campers that visit annually as well as other organizations that use the facilities for their own events, an important source of revenue for these self-sustaining entities.

"Young Life leadership is committed to providing tools to our staff and volunteers to fulfill our common mission. Interlink has proven to be a critical partner in our effort to plan and build a web-based portal solution that meets the needs of our staff and volunteers around the world and will grow with our organization," said Swenson.
