The good news is, in the absence of eye disease, diminished vision--especially up close--may be one of the easier signs of aging to improve. A common effect of age on the eyes is presbyopia--the inability to focus up close. Use the right light. By the time you reach the age of 60, you will need three times as much wattage to see at the same level as a 20-year-old.

Don't forget your computer. Let your eye doctor know if you spend a lot of time in front of a computer. Computer screens are typically farther away than reading distance, but not far enough for distance lenses. Special bifocal or trifocal prescriptions can accommodate this unusual distance.
