* Col. Scott Madore -- the Army's project manager for soldier lethality--is in charge of fielding small arms for the service, including the Next Generation Squad Weapons: the Sig Sauer XM5 Rifle and XM250 Automatic Rifle.

Along with the rifles, the service is fielding the XM157 Fire Control system, which is manufactured by Vortex Optics and currently undergoing qualification testing.

How good is the fire control system? Madore addressed the question recently at NDIA's Future Force Conference in Austin, Texas.

He vouched for it himself. He has fired it numerous times and called it a "phenomenal capability."
