Stop blaming Nader.

If the heterogeneous group of people who call themselves "progressive" are united by a single ideal, it is their support for the expansion of human rights and constitutional protections to all people.

How ironic, then, that self-identified progressives so often vilify minor party and independent candidates simply because they participate in our ostensibly democratic electoral process. And how unfortunate that The Progressive devotes precious column inches to publishing such political bigotry.

In a letter to the editor (February issue), Marlin Morris writes that while she considers herself a "liberal," Ralph Nader should have "kept his nose out" of the 2000 presidential election. Why? Because his participation "handed the Presidency to George Bush." Thus, according to Morris, "Nader is responsible for the Roberts Supreme Court."
