The Detroit Region has a unique spirit - a competitor's spirit - that is especially evident in tough times. The determination to look beyond our economic and political challenges and focus on what we as community leaders can control, was central to the launch of my new initiative, "Let's Meet in the D!"


Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau (DMCVB) President and CEO Larry Alexander and I unveiled the effort in May alongside representatives from local companies standing up to say that as leaders we have the power to make a difference, right here, right now. Like these companies, Chamber members have a reputation for contributing to the region in ways that not only protect our future, but ensure it. As a board director and member of the Chamber, and as chairman of the board of the DMCVB, I'm calling on you once again.

"Let's Meet in the D!" is an effort to stimulate economic activity, create jobs, spur the previously untapped small meetings market and amass advocates for our region by encouraging local companies who hold meetings all over the world, to consider hosting some of their meetings and events in metro Detroit . If each local business commits to hosting one additional meeting or event in southeast Michigan, the impact will be staggering.

All of the new and remodeled hotel rooms and meeting spaces, top cultural, entertainment and leisure options, a world-class airport, and the cost-effectiveness and accessibility of our destination, makes this the best time in nearly half a century to bring a meeting or event to southeast Michigan.
