STEM Talent Challenge Program (DOC)
Scope: The Commerce Department’s Office of
Innovation and Entrepreneurship seeks applications
for the FY2020 STEM Talent Challenge Program
announcement to create and implement science,
technology, engineering and mathematics talent
development strategies that complement their respective
region’s innovation economy, particularly as they relate
to emerging, transformative sectors and future industries
such as artificial intelligence and machine learning,
advanced manufacturing and robotics, space exploration
and commerce, bioscience, quantum information
science, and aqua- and agricultural technologies.
Deadline: Oct. 14, 2020.
Funds: $2 million total for awards of up to $300,000 for
project periods of 18 to 24 months.
Eligibility: Colleges and universities; nonprofit
organizations; and state, local and Native American
tribal governments; among others.
Areas: DOC said projects should aim to identify
opportunities in high-growth potential sectors, and
to expand and empower the innovation economy
workforce, including by: engaging regional
entrepreneurs, innovators and the organizations that
support them to assess and forecast current and future
talent needs and to develop collaborative solutions with
work-based programs; connecting highly skilled talent
to highly technical opportunities that foster professional
development and provide continuing advanced skills
training to develop the technical and scientific workforce
entrepreneurs need; and strengthening collaboration
among entrepreneurs, industry leaders and employers,
educational organizations, established corporations
and the public sector to enable better access to skilled
workers and to develop demand-driven workforce
pipelines for the innovation economy.

Marine Fisheries Initiative (DOC)
Scope: The Commerce Department’s National
Marine Fisheries Service seeks applications for the
FY2021 Marine Fisheries Initiative Southeast Region
announcement for research and development projects
that optimize the use of fisheries in the Gulf of Mexico,
Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and off the
South Atlantic states of North Carolina, South Carolina,
Georgia and Florida.
Deadline: Oct. 23, 2020.
Funds: $2.5 million total for up to five awards ranging
from $25,000 to $250,000.
Eligibility: Colleges and universities; nonprofit
organizations; and state, local and Native American
tribal governments; among others.
