STATISTICAL HIGHLIGHTS
1|CRUDE OIL AND NGL
PRODUCTION
Provisional estimates for OPEC crude oil production in July
2019 totaled 29.8 mn bpd. For the 12 members of OPEC,
natural gas liquids (NGL) production for July was 5.8 mn
bpd, bringing total combined production of crude oil and
NGL to 35.5 mn bpd, down 2.1 mn bpd or 5.7% lower than
the figure for July 2018.
Crude oil and NGL production in the OECD 30 countries
totaled 26.8 mn bpd in July, up by 1.7 mn bpd or 6.9% from
the previous year.
Production in the countries of the Commonwealth of
Independent States (CIS) for July 2019 was 15.1 mn bpd,
down 0.1 mn bpd or 0.5% compared with July 2018, and
for the rest of the world, production was 16.7 mn bpd, up
by 0.5 mn bpd or 2.9% higher than the figure from the
previous year.
Total world production of crude oil and NGL for July
2019 totaled 94.2 mn bpd, a decrease of less than 0.1 mn
bpd compared with the figure for July 2018.
2|NATURAL GAS PRODUCTION
US production of natural gas for May 2019 was 80.1 bcm,
up 8.8 bcm or 12.3% compared with May 2018.
In Canada production in May totaled 16.0 bcm, remained
level with May 2018. Production for OECD Europe-23 was
18.1 bcm, a decrease of 0.5 bcm or 2.8% on the previous year.
Natural gas production in the CIS countries was 83.7
bcm, up 5.1 bcm or 6.5% compared with May 2018.
Over all, world total natural gas production in May 2019
was 359.5 bcm, an increase of 20.9 bcm or 6.2% compared
with the figure for May 2018.
3|COAL AND LIGNITE
PRODUCTION
World total combined production of coal and lignite in May
2019 was 522.7 mn mt, up 3.1 mn mt, an increase of 0.6%
on the previous year.
Production in the United States in May was 54.3 mn mt,
a decrease of 2.3 mn mt or 4.0% compared with the figure
for May 2018.
The CIS countries produced 49.4 mn mt of coal and lig-
nite in May 2019, an increase of 2.3 mn mt or 4.9% com-
pared with May 2018.
4|ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION
Net total world production of electricity in May 2019 was
59.4 bn kWh or 3.0% higher than in May 2018, at 2038.5
bn kWh.
In China, net electricity production increased by 34.5 bn
kWh, or 6.7% on the figure for May 2019, at 545.6 bn kWh.
US production for May 2019 was up 7.8 bn kWh, or 2.3%
compared with the figure for May 2018 at 347.0 bn kWh.
Net electricity production in OECD Europe-23 increased
by 3.8 bn kWh, or 1.4% compared with May 2018, at 267.6
bn kWh.
5|PRODUCTS DEMAND
Demand for oil products in the United States for May 2019
was 20.2 mn bpd, an increase of less than 0.1 mn bpd com-
pared with May 2018.
Across the OECD 30 countries, products demand was
44.2 mn bpd, up by 0.1 mn bpd or 0.2% compared with
May 2018.
Products demand in Japan for May 2019 was 4.1 mn
bpd, a decrease of 0.2 mn bpd or 4.6% compared with the
previous year.
Total world demand for petroleum products in May 2019
was 94.8 mn bpd, a decrease of 1.0 mn bpd or 1% compared
with the figure for May 2018.
