Statistical highlights
1|CRUDE OIL AND NGL
PRODUCTION
Provisional estimates for OPEC crude oil production in
October 2019 totaled 31.2 mn bpd. For the 12 members of
OPEC, natural gas liquids (NGL) production for October
was 5.0 mn bpd, bringing total combined production of
crude oil and NGL to 36.2 mn bpd, down 2.1 mn bpd or
5.4% lower than the figure for October 2018.
Crude oil and NGL production in the OECD 30 coun-
tries totaled 27.0 mn bpd in October, up by 1.7 mn bpd or
6.5% from the previous year.
Production in the countries of the Commonwealth of
Independent States (CIS) for October 2019 was
15.6 mn bpd, up 0.2 mn bpd or 1.5% compared with
October 2018, and for the rest of the world, production
was 16.7 mn bpd, up by 0.3 mn bpd or 1.7% higher than
the figure from the previous year.
Total world production of crude oil and NGL for
October 2019 totaled 95.4 mn bpd, an increase of
0.1 mn bpd compared with the figure for October 2018.
2|NATURAL GAS PRODUCTION
US production of natural gas for August 2019 was 83.8 bcm,
up 9.1 bcm or 12.1% compared with August 2018.
In Canada production in August totaled 15.6 bcm,
down 0.4 bcm or 2.7% compared with August 2018. Pro-
duction for OECD Europe-23 was 17.5 bcm, a decrease of
1.1 bcm or 5.9% on the previous year.
Natural gas production in the CIS countries was
77.0 bcm, up 2.9 bcm or 3.9% compared with August 2018.
Overall, world total natural gas production in August
2019 was 357.6 bcm, an increase of 17.4 bcm or 5.1%
compared with the figure for August 2018.
3|COAL AND LIGNITE
PRODUCTION
World total combined production of coal and lignite in
August 2019 was 520.4 mn mt, down 5.0 mn mt, a
decrease of 1% on the previous year.
Production in the United States in August was
57.0 mn mt, a decrease of 6.0 mn mt or 9.6% compared
with the figure for August 2018.
The CIS countries produced 48.0 mn mt of coal and
lignite in August 2019, a decrease of 2.2 mn mt or 4.4%
compared with August 2018.
4|ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION
Net total world production of electricity in August 2019
was 8.8 bn kWh or 0.4% higher than in August 2018, at
2212.0 bn kWh.
In China, net electricity production increased by
26.1 bn kWh, or 4.3% on the figure for August 2019, at
627.0 bn kWh. US production for August 2019 was up
2.1 bn kWh, or 0.5% compared with the figure for August
2018 at 413.0 bn kWh.
Net electricity production in OECD Europe-23
decreased by 18.1 bn kWh, or 6.5% compared with
August 2018, at 263.0 bn kWh.
5|PRODUCTS DEMAND
Demand for oil products in the United States for August
2019 was 20.8 mn bpd, an increase of 0.3 mn bpd or 1.5%
compared with August 2018.
Across the OECD 30 countries, products demand was
44.6 mn bpd, up by 0.2 mn bpd or 0.5% compared with
August 2018.
Products demand in Japan for August 2019 was
3.6 mn bpd, a decrease of less than 0.1 mn bpd or 0.6%
compared with the previous year.
Total world demand for petroleum products in
August 2019 was 98.0 mn bpd, an increase of 1.7 mn bpd
or 1.8% compared with the figure for August 2018.
