STATISTICAL HIGHLIGHTS

Crude oil and NGL production

Provisional estimates for OPEC crude oil production in

May 2017 totaled 32.4 mn bpd. For the 12 members of

OPEC, natural gas liquids (NGL) production for May

was 5.6 mn bpd, bringing tota l combined production of

crude oil and NGL to 38.0 mn bpd, 0.7 mn bpd or 1.9%

higher than the gure for May 2016.

Crude oil and NGL productionin the OECD 30 coun-

tries totaled 20.9 mn bpd in May, down by0.2 mn bpd or

1% from the previous year.

Production in the c ountries of the Commonwealth of

Independent States(CIS) for May 2017 was 14.6 mn bpd,

up 1 mnbpd or 7.2% compared with May 2016, and for

the rest of the world, production was 16.3mn bpd, up

0.4 mnbpd or 2.5% compared with May 2016.

Total world production of crude oi l and NGL for May

2017 totaled 89.8 mn bpd, an increase of 1.9 mn bpd or

2.1% compared with the gure for May 2016.

Natural gas production

US production of natural gas for March 2017 was

62.0 bcm, down 2.4 bcm or 3.7% compared with March

2016.

InCanada,productioninMarchtotaled16.0bcm,

an increase of 0.6 bcm or 4.2% compared with March

2016. Production for OECD Europe-23 was 20.5 bcm,

up 0.4 bcm or 2.1% compared with the gure for March

2016.

Natural gas production in the CIS countries was

77.3 bcm, up 3.8 bcm or 5.1% compared with March

2016.

Over all, world total natural gas production in March

2017 was 314.2 bcm, an increase of 10.7 bcm or 3.5%

compared with the gure for March 2016.

Coal and lignite production

World total combined production of coal and lignite

in March 2017 was 586.9 mn mt, down 11.3 mn mt, a

decrease of 1.9% on the previous year.

Production in the US in March was 5 8.8 mn mt, an

increase of 11.2 mn mt or 23.6% compared with the

gure for March 2016.

lignite in March 2017, an increase of 2.5mn mt or 5.7%

compared with March 2016.

Electricity production

Net total world production of electricity in March 2017

was 36.3 bn kWh or 1.9% higher than in March 2016, at

1,942.5 bn kWh.

In China, net electricity production increased by

36.6 bn kWh, or 8.2% on the gure for March 2016,

at 485.3 bn kWh. US production for March 2017 was

0.8 bn kWh or 0.3% lower than the gure for March

2016 at 303.2 bn kWh.

Net electricity production in OECD Europe-23

increasedby3.2bnkWh,or1.1%comparedwithMarch

2016, at 292.8 bn kWh.

Products demand

Demand for oil products in the US for March 2017

was 19.5 mn bpd, an increase of 0.1 mn bpd or 0.3%

compared with March 2016.

AcrosstheOECD30countries,productsdemandwas

44.4mnbpd,downbylessthan0.1mnbpdor0.1%com-

pared with March 2016.

Products demand in Japan for March 2017 was

4.5 mn bpd, a decrease of 0.1 mn bpd or 1.4% compared

with the previous year.

Totalworld demand for petroleum products in March

2017 was 94.3 mn bpd, an increase of 1.8 mn bpd or 1.9%

compared with the gure for March 2016.
