STATISTICAL HIGHLIGHTS

Crude oil and NGL production

Provisional estimates for OPEC crude oil production in

July 2017 totaled 33.2 mn bpd. For the 12 members of

OPEC, natural gas liquids (NGL) production for July

was 5.6 mn bpd, bring ing total combined production of

crude oil and NGL to 38.8 mn bpd, 1.1 mn bpd or 2.9%

higher than the gure for July 2016.

Crude oil and NGL productionin the OECD 30 coun-

tries totaled 22.6 mn bpd in July, up by 0.1 mn bpd or

0.7% from the previous year.

Production in the countries of the Commonwealth of

Independent States (CIS) for July2017 was 14.8 mn bpd,

up 1.0 mn bpd or 7.3% compared with July2016, and for

the rest of the world, production was 16.4 mn bpd, up

0.4 mn bpd or 2.6% from the previous year.

Total world production of crude oil and NGL for July

2017 totaled 92.6 mn bpd, an increase of 2.7 mn bpd or

2.9% compared with the gure for July 2016.

Natural gas production

US production of naturalgas for May 2017 was 61.4 bcm,

down 2.3 bcm or 3.6% compared with May 2016.

In Canada production in May totaled 15.2 bcm, an

increase of 1.0 bcm or 7% compared with May 2016.

Production for OECD Europe-23 was 21.7 bcm, up 0.7

bcm or 3.3% compared with the gure for May 2016.

Natural gas production in the CIS countries was 74.3

bcm, up 10.1 bcm or 15.7% compared with May 2016.

Over all, world total natural gas production in May

2017 was 309.4 bcm, an increase of 21.1 bcm or 7.3%

compared with the gure for May 2016.

Coal and lignite production

World total combined production of coal and lignite in

May 2017 was 563.0 mn mt, down 4.7 mn mt, a decrease

of 0.8% on the previous year.

Production in the US in May was 57.2 mn mt, an

increase of 11.3 mn mt or 24.6% compared with the

gure for May 2016.

e CIS countries produced 44.1 mn mt of coal and

lignite in May 2017, an increase of 2.7 mn mt or 6.4%

compared with May 2016.

Electricity production

Net total worldproduction of electricity in May 2017 was

22.8 bn kWh or 1.2% higher than in May2016, at 1,858.4

bn kWh.

In China, net electricity production increased by 0.6

bn kWh, or 0.1% on the gure for May 2016, at 436.0

bn kWh. US production for May 2017 was 1.0 bn kWh

or 0.3% higher than the gure for May 2016 at 318.4

bn kWh.

Net electricity production in OECD Europe-23

increasedby5.5bnkWh,or2.2%comparedwithMay

2016, at 258.2 bn kWh.

Products demand

Demand for oil products in the US forMay 2017 was 19.6

mn bpd, an increase of 0.2 mn bpd or 1.3% compared

with May 2016.

AcrosstheOECD30countries,productsdemandwas

43.6mnbpd,downbylessthan0.1mnbpdor0.1%

compared with May 2016.

Products demand in Japan for May 2017 was 3.8 mn

bpd, a decrease of 0.2 mn bpd or 4.8% compared wit h

the previous year.

Total world demand for petroleum products in May

2017 was 92.1 mn bpd, a decrease of 1.1 mn bpd or 1.2%

compared with the gure for May 2016.
