State preparing to issue Mega Millions rebate checks.

The S.C. Department of Revenue is preparing to issue $61 million in rebate checks to state taxpayers.

Qualifying state taxpayers will receive a check for $50 from the department of revenue later this year. To qualify, taxpayers must have filed a 2018 South Carolina individual income tax return before Oct. 15, 2019 and must have had a state tax liability after credits of at least $50.

The rebates come from the state's payout for the Mega Millions jackpot winner from the drawing on Oct. 24, 2018. The state Legislature voted to offer a rebate to taxpayers from state income tax revenues generated from the winning ticket.
