Science of Atomic Vapors for New Technologies
(DOD)
Scope: The Defense Department’s Defense Advanced
Research Projects Agency seeks applications for
the Science of Atomic Vapors for New Technologies
(SAVaNT) announcement for innovative research
proposals that significantly advance the performance
of atomic vapors for electric field sensing and imaging,
magnetic field sensing and quantum information
science.
Deadline: Oct. 27, 2020.
Funds: Award amounts will vary by scope and project
period.
Eligibility: Unrestricted.
Areas: DOD said the program has three Technical
Areas (TAs) based on the application domains where
atomic vapors are expected to have the biggest impact:
Rydberg Electrometry (TA1), Vector Magnetometry (TA2)
and Vapor Quantum Electrodynamics (TA3). SAVaNT
advances will lay the foundations for new technologies
that address important DOD needs, including applications
that require low size, weight and power; high-sensitivity
electric and magnetic field measurements; scalable room-
temperature quantum memories and interfaces.

Acquisition Research Program (DOD)
Scope: The Defense Department seeks applications for
the Acquisition Research Program (ARP) announcement
to conduct and support research in academic disciplines
that bear on public procurement policy and management.
Deadline: Nov. 20, 2020.
Funds: Multiple awards of up to $110,000. The
maximum project period is one year.
Eligibility: Colleges and universities and nonprofit
organizations, among others.
Areas: DOD said the ARP is interested in innovative
proposals that will provide unclassified and
nonproprietary findings suitable for publication in open
scholarly literature. Studies of government processes,
systems, or policies should also expand the body of
knowledge and theory of processes, systems or policies
outside the government. The following research areas
are of special interest: leading-edge techniques in data
collection, management, visual analytics and decision-
making; robust risk modeling techniques; performance
metrics and methodologies; collaboration and cross-
functional teams; and model-based acquisition.

Stand Down grants (DOL)
Scope: The Labor Department’s Veterans Employment
and Training Service seeks applications for Stand
Down (SD) grants to support local SD events that
assist homeless veterans by providing a wide variety of
employment, social and health services.
Deadline: Dec. 31, 2020.
Funds: $7,000 total for a one-day event and $10,000 for
a multiple-day event.
Eligibility: Nonprofit organizations, including community-
and faith-based organizations; state and local workforce
development boards; veteran service organizations; local
public agencies; and Native American tribal governments.
Areas: DOL said the program supports local SD events
that assist homeless veterans by providing a wide
variety of employment, social and health services.
Stand Down grant funds must be used to enhance
employment and training opportunities or to promote the
self-sufficiency of homeless veterans through paid work.
Veterans experiencing homelessness do not always
have access to basic hygiene supplies necessary to
maintain their health and appearance. Lack of shelter
limits their ability to prepare for and present themselves
at job interviews or be contacted for follow-up. Basic
services such as showers, haircuts, attention to health
concerns and other collaborative services provided at
SD events can give participants a greater sense of self
and an opportunity to improve their chances of securing
and maintaining employment.
