NCSL involvement: Stangl is the staff vice chair of the Redistricting and Elections Standing Committee

The best advice she's ever received: "'Never lose your curiosity.' Being curious at work helps me to understand issues and identify solutions. Being curious in life just makes things more interesting."

Why did you choose to work at the legislature?

I am fascinated by the legislative process. Being a nonpartisan staffer is a great fit for me because it allows me to be a part of the process without being political.

What skill or talent are you most proud of?

Professionally, my ability to listen to (and hear) what others are saying, then ask appropriate follow-up questions to make sure I understand the issue. Personally, I have a green thumb and am always proud of my vegetable garden and flower beds.

Who or what inspires you?

Robin Arzon. She is a fitness instructor and author. Her life is inspiring and so are her messages of encouragement and confidence.

What's one thing you love about your state?

The beauty of the outdoors. Minnesota has prairies, woods, plains, bluffs and, of course, lots of lakes and rivers. I am so fortunate to spend a lot of time on the Mississippi River boating and fishing.

What are you currently reading/listening to/watching?

I just finished the novel "Black Sun," by Rebecca Roanhorse, for my book club and really enjoyed it. I am also listening to Book 7 of the "Wheel of Time" series, by Robert Jordan, on audiobook.
