SSAE No. 10, Attestation Standards: Revision and Recodification, to Be Issued.

The Auditing Standards Board in early Feb. will issue Statement on Standards for Attestation Engagements No. 10 (No. 023029CPA01). The SSAE will:

* Change the title of AT section 101 to Attest Engagements.

* Clarify the applicability of the standard.

* Revise the third general standard to focus on the essential elements of criteria: the criteria must be suitable and must be available to users. The subject matter also must be capable of reasonably consistent evaluation against the criteria.

* Enable true direct reporting on subject matter by eliminating the requirement to make reference to the assertion in the practitioner's report.

* Provide expanded guidance on the circumstances in which the use of attest reports should be restricted to specified parties.

* Supersede SSAE Nos. 1 through 9 and renumber the AT sections.
