O. Fay Allen, Jr.
Born November 2, 1912, in Chelsea, Vermont, O. Fay (Oscar) Allen, known to many as Fay, died on March 17, 2009. After graduating from Chelsea High School, Allen spent a year at Tabor Academy in Marion, Massachusetts, before putting himself through Dartmouth College, from which he graduate in 1935. Returning to Chelsea, he clerked with the law firm of Wilson and Keysor, studying law at the same time, until he passed the Vermont bar exam without ever having attended law school. He served as Orange County clerk, justice of the peace, judge of probate, and clerk of the Vermont House of Representatives. In 1965, with Harvey "Bud" Otterman, he formed the law firm of Otterman and Allen in Bradford, where he worked until his retirement in 1988. In recent years he resided in Dallas, Pennsylvania. He is survived by a sister, a son, a daughter, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
