Three veteran toy designers--David Bowen, Justin Discoe and Chris Clemmer--and engineer David Monahan co-founded Sprig Toys in 2007, then recruited "finance guy" Craig Storey as CEO to help guide the green toy startup to instant success.

Discoe said his rambunctious young son pushing a Tonka truck around his farm in the Fort Collins area originally inspired Sprig's line of kid-powered, battery-free toys.

"He just had so much energy," Discoe said. "I thought, 'How great would it be if a kid could push a toy and light up a light?'"
