Kimball International, Borden, French Lick, Salem and West Baden; Regional Emp.: 1,539--From its four Southern Indiana plants, Kimball International sends products into homes, offices and schools. Kimball Office Furniture plants in Borden and Salem produce casegoods--larger office furnishings such as desks and credenzas. Kimball Piano in West Baden produces pianos and other products. Kimball Electronics in French Lick makes electronic assemblies for personal-computer keyboards and other applications. Founded in 1950 as the Jasper Corp., what is today Jasper-based Kimball International produces and sells pianos in the U.S. and Europe and manufactures office products in the U.S. and England.

Clark Memorial Hospital, Clarksville; Emp.: 1,297--Founded in 1922, Clark Memorial Hospital today offers a 285-bed acute-care facility covering all medical specialties. It is affiliated with Jewish Hospital of Louisville. With a medical staff of 376, Clark Memorial has rapidly enlarged its services. A recently decorated pediatrics wing offers services for families. Other newly renovated areas include the hospital's Emergency Department, the Family Birth Place and the New Directions HealthCare Center. Clark Memorial Hospital recently purchased the Springdale Medical Plaza to accommodate primary-care physicians and entered into a joint partnership with Floyd Memorial Hospital and Frazier Rehab Center to open the 60-bed Southern Indiana Rehab Hospital.

Floyd Memorial Hospital, New Albany; Emp.: 1,260--Founded in 1953, Floyd Memorial Hospital has grown considerably to its current size as a 266-bed acute-care hospital. Recently ranked in the Top 100 of the 5,600 acute-care hospitals in the nation, Floyd Memorial Hospital has a medical staff of 110. The hospital recently added several new features, including a $20 million, 700,000-square-foot addition for outpatient services, which upon completion this summer is expected to attract more than 250,000 patients a year; an immediate-care center in Floyds Knobs; and a joint venture with Clark Memorial Hospital and the Frazier Rehab Center: the 60-bed Southern Indiana Rehab Hospital.
