Sony Corp.'s sleek FIU-710 fingerprint identification device -- known as the 'Puppy unit" -- is available for purchase. The FIU-710 unit, which sells for $299, matches and stores users' fingerprints inside the device -- not on the PC or the Internet. The credit-card sized Puppy unit then uses an individual's fingerprints to allow that person to log onto a PC, replace passwords and secure folders on Windows(r) 98, 98SE, ME and 2000 systems.
