Soldiers in the field can appreciate notebooks that are not damaged by water. A case in point are the so-called "All Weather Tactical Field Books," employed by soldiers deployed in Operation Enduring Freedom, who said these notebooks can take the heating of combat and "don't turn into sponges when it rains."

The tactical notebooks are part of the "Rite in the Rain" product line--made by J.L. Darling Corporation, of Tacoma, Wash.

The paper is coated to allow it to withstand downpours. Products for tactical use include a field book, loose-leaf paper, reference cards...
