To be able to measure and record soldiers' performance in stressful situations, the Army is testing the so-called Multimodal Interface Research Platform, or MIRP.

Developed by TIAX, of Cambridge, Mass., the MIRP is mounted on a vest. The entire ensemble includes a miniature, head-mounted display; tactile stimulators; stereo headphones, sensors and voice-trigger switches that determine how quickly and accurately users respond to cues.
