The New Jersey Packaging Executives Club (NJPEC) has named a Smyth Companies' entry its Package of the Year winner in the organization's annual awards for 2003.

The honored package is a Kellogg brand cereal box that incorporates a Smyth promotional label to cause consumer interaction at the point of purchase. This year's field of candidates included 75 entries in categories such as food and beverage, household/industrial, and personal care. The Kellogg package was competing in the promotional category.

The promotion utilizes a thermal-activated liquid-crystal disk that is applied to a collectible trading card. The cards were printed and converted into the disk/card construction by Smyth at the company's Minneapolis facility. Smyth then provided the means to apply the cards to the inside of the cereal box, at the carton manufacturing line.
