Perhaps that's putting the issue a little severely, but the fact remains, says Leon Majors, president of ESP Consulting in Salisbury, Md., that 94 percent of all small-business bills are printed on paper--and that's a lot of trees biting the dust.

It's only a little better among bigger businesses--86 percent. Overall, Majors says, interest in electronic billing is most prevalent in the health services industry and among industries where large-scale billing is the rule: credit cards, utilities, insurers and the like.
