As South Africa strives to gain control of its alarmingly high unemployment rate (26.7 percent, according to 2005 government statistics) the news that 90,000 new jobs were added to the country's formal sector during the final quarter of 2005 is most welcome. The job increase represents a 1.3 percent rise in employment over the third quarter of 2005.
