* Some people swear by a pillow that is so soft they can sink into it. We, though, swear at it. As far as we're concerned, firmness is the key to a good night's sleep, offering solid support at bedtime as well as a sturdy backrest for reading before the lights are turned out. In pursuit of the ideal pillow, we have gone through any number of models, bouncing our demanding heads off feathers, polyester, foam rubber, and a variety of combinations and alternatives, but we never really were satisfied until we found that our favorite mail-order clothier--Lands' End, Inc., Dodgeville, Wis.--had added bedware to its inventory.

Poring through its catalogue was the first step, but, as usual, the best way to get detailed information from Lands' End was to call and speak to one of the ultraknowledgable and infinitely patient sales aides who answer the phone.
