SLC Bike Share launched.

The SALT LAKE CHAMBER, DOWNTOWN ALLIANCE and SALT LAKE CITY have joined forces to create Utah's first solar-powered bike share program. SLC Bike Share is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that will operate and manage the system of bicycles and kiosks.

The kiosks are fully automated with touch screens that are solar powered. They will be located at specific points of interest on the sidewalk or parking area. The beauty of the program is that riders can pick up a bike at one station, ride to their destination and park the bike back into a different station. Users can get from point A to point B quickly with out having to worry about parking, and it saves on gas.

Bike share is vastly different from renting a bike. The maximum time allowed to have a bike checked out is 30 minutes. The bikes are specifically for transportation.
