Slat armor or bar armor?

You published an excellent article in October 05 issue ("Stryker Units Win Over Skeptics") describing soldiers' impressions of Stryker. I did muse at Maj. Mullen's comment: "I was here when they came up with the slat armor."

Just to clarify who "they" really were, I should point out that no major is old enough to know the origin of the slat armor. In the Mobile Riverine Force, TF116, Mekong Delta, Vietnam, we called it "bar armor."

It protected a variety of the naval riverine craft that supported the Army's 9th Infantry...
