Arguing that increasing tax revenue should be motivation enough, proponents of abolishing the Sunday prohibition against alcohol sales are increasing their efforts. They argue that by allowing liquor stores to open on Sunday--the country's second biggest shopping day--states will receive more in excise tax revenue. Since 2002, 13 states have abolished these so-called "blue laws"; now 35 states allow alcohol sales on Sundays. However, some states allow sales through local control, and others only in certain parts of the state.
