Survey shows almost all employers have a written pension investment policy.

Eighty-nine percent of U.S. employers have at least one written investment policy statement, according to Investment Policy Statements, the latest survey in the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans' Survey & Sample Series.

This survey collected information from 166 U.S. single employer, multiemployer, and public employer participants. The results include 37 sample investment policies. The survey summarizes the most popular components of investment policy statements for defined benefit plans, 401(k) plans, money purchase pension plans, 403(b) plans, and welfare plans. Key findings of the survey include the following:

* Fifty-five percent of respondents have a written investment policy statement for their defined benefit pension plan.

* Thiry-eight percent of respondents have a written statement for their 401(k) plan.

* Ninety percent of defined benefit plan policy statements include asset mix targets and ranges.

* Ninety-five percent of 401(k) plans include selection and monitoring of investment options in their policy statements.
