August 2008 was a very busy time for the Detroit Regional Economic Partnership staff and its investors. The Detroit Region played host to the 90th PGA Championship at Oakland Hills, and for the second year, the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix made an appearance on Belle Isle. The Partnership also reported its 2007-2008 results during the month of August.
The Partnership hosts site selectors during these premier events to improve the image of Detroit as a great place to do business, provide introductions to key decision influencers in the region's local business community and economic developers and develop strong long-term relationships with the prospect and site consultants.
In partnership with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and Northwest Airlines and supported by the Detroit Regional Chamber, the Partnership hosted prospects and clients during the PGA Championships. The prospects were able to attend a reception hosted by Governor Jennifer Granholm, made business connections with Partnership investors and met the lead economic developers covering Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties, as well the State of Michigan.
The Partnership and DTE Energy hosted nine site selection professionals during the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix weekend, August 29 - September 30. The consultants advise businesses across the country on real estate location decisions and can influence a company in its consideration of the Detroit Region as a future business location. Initial reactions by consultants and our business community were very positive.
