Reared on a farm, John Wadsworth loved growing food. But he realized it wasn't the best way to harvest money. So he decided to do the next best thing: study food.

As a predentistry student at Brigham Young University, he enrolled in a food science class where he found that deciphering the complex make-up of foods intrigued him. Graduating in food science and economics, he worked with a handful of nutritional products companies. But his most profound discovery came several years later, almost by accident.

"I heard there was this fruit in Tahiti called nono, that helped relieve the symptoms of diabetes. I was interested in it, and was able to set up a study with a [Type I] diabetic," explains Wadsworth. When the study didn't yield any significant effect, he shelved the project. "The juice tasted horrible, terrible, and I thought it was a joke, so I just put it aside."

A few days later, he thought he'd continue the joke by offering the juice as an elixir to a colleague complaining of a head cold. When the colleague returned with reports of relieved arthritis, Wadsworth wasn't laughing.

He recruited renowned food scientist and friend Stephen Story to join his analysis of the pimpled green fruit. Study after study revealed the juice from the Morinda citrifolia plant to have beneficial results for people with a variety of ailments: Type II diabetes, arthritis, autoimmune deficiencies, and other problems.
