Teenage girls today are going for their first gynecological visit at a younger age, according to an informal survey of 100 gynecologists conducted by the Vagisil Women's Health Center (VWHC) at the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists symposium. Gynecologists say that the majority of these young women, who usually are seeking birth control on their initial visit, lack feminine health knowledge.

"Many teenage girls don't get the information they need because they are embarrassed about the changes in their bodies or the personal nature of their concerns, and they don't feel comfortable telling anyone there is something wrong," indicates Andrea Marks, an adolescent medicine expert and medical advisor to the VWHC.

Fifty percent of gynecologists responding to the survey noted that they see more than 20 girls under the age of 18 each...
