Rituals are reassuring and comforting, especially for children. And in the case of our annual trek to Sesame Place in Langhorne, Pa., they aye exciting, too, including for the parents. We've been going to the nation's only theme park based on PBS's forever-popular "Sesame Street" since before our daughter's first birthday. She recently turned seven, and her brothers are five and three. All five of us had a blast. "Our best trip to Sesame ever!," was the younger set's consensus.

Part of the added fun came from two new attractions: Big Bird's Balloon Race (a 40-foot-high tower ride) and Grover's World Twirl (with character-themed spinning teacups). Yet, as the kids grow up--and become more independent and adventurous---many of Sesame's old standbys become a whole new experience as well. Our older two, for example, only dared venture on the Little Bird Rapids and Slimey's Chutes tube rides by themselves before this year.
