Services Provided to Birth
Parents by Agencies
The following services will generally be made available to the birth mother and, when applicable, the birth
father or legal father. Some of the services listed below will be overseen by the agency’s attorneys, and
others will be provided directly by the agency representatives.
Adoption agencies generally provide the following services, among others, to the birth parent(s):
• Assist in securing safe, secure, and affordable living arrangements (preplacement and postplace-
ment, as permitted by law).
• Arrange for utility services and payment of utility bills (gas, electric, cell phone, water, sewer, etc.).
• Arrange for medical doctor and laboratory appointments and secure and review all reports from
health-care providers, including obstetrician’s medical reports, ultrasound reports, progress chart
notes, medical histories, laboratory results, diagnostic imaging reports, and such other medical
information as is available about the pregnancy.
• Schedule and coordinate family counseling services for the birth mother and/or the birth father
with agency and/or outside professionals.
• Arrange transportation to and from all necessary medical, dental, laboratory, counseling, and
other appointments.
• Arrange for hospital registration and negotiation of payment for hospital and physician billings.
• Review all charges relating to the birth mother and the baby.
