The first Community Service Award presented by the Alaska State Community Service Commission was given to Sen. Johnny Ellis of Anchorage at a luncheon ceremony recently at the Baranof Hotel in Juneau. The award will be christened the "Johnny Ellis Community Service Award" and will be given to Ellis this year and others annually in the future to recognize Alaskans who have shown exemplary leadership in the area of community service.
