Indian environmental law
for international environ-
mental lawyers, managers,
policymakers, and thought
leaders.
Panelists discussed how
environmental law in India
works, hot topics of interest
to non-Indian practitioners,
and the likely future direc-
tion of Indian environmen-
tal law. Moderated by John
Pendergrass, Co-Director
of ELI’s International Pro-
grams, panelists included
K.V. Singh and Shephali
Mehra Birdi of Kochhar &
Co., and Paul E. Hagen,
Chair, International Practice
Section, Beveridge & Dia-
mond, PC.

ated by Michael B. Gerrard,
Director, Center for Cli-
mate Change Law, Colum-
bia Law School, was “Ad-
vising Clients on the New
Climate and Energy Land-
scape,” which discussed
what environmental profes-
sionals need to consider
when advising clients on the
new regulatory landscape
and what it will mean to be
an environmental lawyer,
consultant, activist, expert,
or policymaker. Panelists
discussed future kinds of
environmental law practice
in a world of climate change
regulation.
e second panel was
“e New Frontier of
Cross-Border Enforce-
ment,” which discussed
the growing trend of “en-
forcement at the border”
as U.S. companies import
products that fail to meet
domestic environmental
standards. e panel dis-
cussed the issues involved

eral and state agencies, the
private sector, and nongov-
ernmental organizations
discussed the role of the
Coastal Zone Management
Act in our nation’s ocean
policy and how the CZMA
serves as a tool to address
challenges facing coastal
communities and ecosys-
tems.
