On January 13, ELI
hosted a seminar entitled
Revisions to Endangered
Species Consultation Rules
and the Future of the En-
dangered Species Act. e
panel discussed how revi-
sions to the ESA Section 7
program will af‌fect species
recovery, agency consulta-
tions, and the regulated
community. ey discussed
the likely future direction
of the ESA, including the
impact of pending species
listing decisions on en-
ergy development, climate
change and the act, wolf
delisting, and reauthoriza-
tion prospects. Panelists
included Michael J. Bean,
Director of the Wildlife
Program and Senior Attor-
ney at the Environmental
Defense Fund; Michael
Bogert, Counselor to Secre-
tary of the Interior; Duane
Desiderio, Staf‌f Vice Presi-
dent for Legal Af‌fairs at
the National Association of
Home Builders; and Bob
Irvin, Senior Vice President
for Conservation Programs
at Defenders of Wildlife.
e discussion was moder-
ated by Lawrence R. Lie-
besman, Partner at Holland
& Knight.
Staf‌f
Dan Schramm and Jor-
dan Diamond have joined
ELI’s staf‌f as Law Fellows.
Dan is a 2008 graduate
of Vermont Law School.
He received his B.A. in
2004 from St. Olaf Col-
lege in Northf‌ield, Min-
nesota, with a degree in
philosophy and concentra-
tions in environmental
studies and theology.
During his second year at
Vermont Law, he worked
in the Environmental and
Natural Resources Law
Clinic on a successful
RCRA citizen suit over
groundwater contamina-
tion from a mining facility.
Prior to ELI, Jordan
completed internships
with the California
Coastal Commission,
Environmental Defense
Fund, WilmerHale, and
Earthjustice. Jordan holds
a J.D. from the University
of California at Berkeley
Law School, where she
completed a certif‌icate in
environmental law, and a
B.A. in earth and environ-
mental sciences from Wes-
leyan University, where
she was awarded the Sease
Prize for outstanding work
in her discipline.
Sabrina Yige Zhang,
an attorney from China,
has joined ELI as a visiting
scholar to expand ELI’s
work in China. Sabrina
is a recent graduate of
the University of Oregon
School of Law, where
she studied environmen-
tal policy and natural
resource law. While at
Oregon, she worked with
Environmental Law Al-
liance Worldwide China
Program. Prior to that,
she earned a law degree
in China and worked
for the Center for Legal
Assistance to Pollution
Victims and King Horse
Law Firm. Her area of
focus was public inter-
est lawsuits, investigating
Chinese water and energy
issues, and helping to set
up an international net-
work.
