Section 9 Special Business District Law

By action of its governing body, any city may establish a special business district for specified areas in the city, subject to the approval of the electors within the area of the proposed district. Section 71.800, RSMo 2000. (An earlier Attorney General's opinion stating that the City of Warrensburg could, by ordinance, establish a special business district and that the district could impose the special taxes set forth in § 71.800 without an authorizing election has been withdrawn. See Op. Att'y Gen. 109‑81 (1981).) The purpose of the law is to give districts power to levy special fees and taxes for the maintenance and improvement of special business districts.
