A. (§9.36) Generally

A writ of habeas corpus is a remedy that can be used to procure or change custody in certain limited situations. Specifically, such a remedy is properly used when a custody award by a court is illegal on the face of the record. In re Cook, 691 S.W.2d 243 (Mo. banc 1985).
