B. (§9.21) Virtual Visitation

Virtual visitation provides a means for divorced, separated, or distant parents to communicate with their children using electronic communication devices such as:

e-mail;

instant messaging;

video conferencing;

video calling;

video mailing; and

more.

The Supreme Court of North Dakota explained:

Virtual visitation includes using the telephone, Internet, web-cam, and other wireless or wired technologies to ensure the child has frequent and meaningful contact with the noncustodial parent. It is most useful in cases . . . where the child and noncustodial parent are accustomed to seeing each other on a regular basis but no longer will be able to because of . . . relocation. is not a substitute for personal contact, but it can be a useful tool
to supplement in-person...
