NLRA § 8(a)(2), 29 U.S.C. § 158(a)(2), makes it unlawful for an employer “to dominate or interfere with the formation or administration of any labor organization or contribute financial or other support to it.” The section prohibits both domination and illegal assistance and support.

Examples of violations of § 8(a)(1) cited by the NLRB include:

• taking an active part in organizing a union or a committee to represent employees

• putting pressure on employees to support a union financially, except in the enforcement of a lawful union security agreement
